Established in 1997 by CALICO (Child Abuse Listening, Interviewing and Coordination Center) the Multi-Disciplinary Child Abuse Partnership achieves justice and healing for abused toddlers, children and adolescents as well as adults living with developmental disabilities in California's Alameda County.
CALICO brings together 30 law enforcement, prosecution, health and child welfare agencies to provide a continuum of support that begins the moment an allegation of abuse is reported. The program includes forensic interviewing, family support services, multi-disciplinary collaboration, training for professionals and community engagement.
"CALICO's success stems from our ability to bring multiple agencies together to share information and decide the best approach to ensure the safety of these youngest victims," said Victoria Gwiasda, Executive Director of CALICO. "Through our unique collaborative approach, abused children no longer have to repeat embarrassing details to multiple strangers, families are quickly and effectively connected to services, and safety needs are addressed."
