MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MTE Corporation, a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-efficiency electrical power quality solutions for commercial and industrial applications, today announces its new 600V, 60Hz and 690V, 50Hz harmonic filter models that are available from 6 Amps to 786 Amps. Joining the Matrix AP family of 480V, 60Hz and 400V, 50Hz offerings, this latest addition completes the Matrix AP product line, providing best-of-breed mitigation solutions and options to damaging and costly harmonics.
Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs), pumps, transformers, motors and other electrical equipment can introduce harmful harmonics into neighboring equipment and onto the electrical grid system, resulting in poor power quality, reduced energy efficiencies and potential penalties from utility companies.
Operating at over 99 percent efficiency, MTE's Matrix AP harmonic filters address the demand for improved power quality, providing users with the most efficient harmonic mitigation available in a passive filter. Incorporating MTE's patented Adaptive Passive technology, the Matrix AP harmonic filters are able to quickly adapt their impedance in response to changing electrical loads. Compared to other passive filter designs that work for 100 percent loads, the Matrix AP maintains filtering performance over a wider load, including mitigating harmonic distortion at low loads. This unique capability gives the Matrix AP family the distinction of being the most technically advanced passive filters on the market.
"We're excited to add higher voltage harmonic filters to our popular Matrix AP product family, said Chad Burks, commercial programs manager for MTE Corp. "As more and more electrical loads are added to an electrical infrastructure, harmonics pose a constant challenge to power quality. Our Adaptive Passive technology quickly mitigates damaging and costly harmonics across a wide range of loads that can cause power losses, overheating, mechanical stress and shortened equipment life."
As with all Matrix AP models, the new 600V and 690V filters are available with a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 50°C. Ideal for use on the power input of VFDs and other 6-pulse drives, the Matrix AP filters help customers meet IEEE-519 requirements for harmonic distortion, regardless of power load. In addition, the new models are compatible with generator systems and use up to 83 percent fewer capacitors than previous generation Matrix filters. Moreover, MTE has eliminated the usage of resistors, resulting in less heat generation, removing the need for fans.
The Matrix AP line also features a host of capacitor contactor options to meet specific power applications, including disconnection of the filter capacitor bank, adjustable pick-up and drop-out and filter bypass.
The 600V and 690V Matrix AP harmonic filters are available now in open panel. In addition, the 600V is also available in NEMA 1/2 and NEMA 3R configurations. UL and cUL Listed, the Matrix AP family offers a 3-year warranty. For more information on MTE's power quality solutions, visit: www.mtecorp.com or call 800-455-4MTE (800-455-4683).
