Mrs. Michigan International, Melissa Pocza, Crowned Mrs. International 2017
Pocza to advocate for neglected and abused children throughout her reign
CHARLESTON, W.Va., Aug. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Mrs. Michigan International, Melissa Pocza, 37, a native of Detroit, Mich. and current resident of McKinney, Texas, was crowned Mrs. International 2017, Saturday, Aug. 12 at the Annual Mrs. International Pageant held in its new home of Charleston, W.Va. The three-hour event took place at the Cultural Center, featuring 64 contestants from around the world competing in three categories, including interview, fitness-wear, and evening gown. Pocza was crowned by her husband, Zoltan Pocza, Jr., before a sold-out audience.
The International Pageants system promotes community service with half of each contestant's competition score based on knowledge of and work with her platform. During her reign, Pocza will advocate for abused children through her own program, Broken Little Voices, which raises awareness of these issues through a free APP that provides support and resources for child abuse survivors. She's also aligned with the National Child Advocacy Center's "It's My Body Campaign," and will work to initiate similar programs into community outreach organizations during her year of service as Mrs. International.
"I grew up receiving help from organizations like Children's Alliance and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America and my family has rescued several children of abuse and neglect. This has inspired me to make it my own purpose to stand up for abuse and neglect through my own organizations and partnerships that support my cause," said Pocza. "With my new role as Mrs. International, I've found another perfect partnership to help me help others both at home and globally."
Pocza is the mother of two young boys and a partner with her husband in a successful international manufacturing business that also supports her platform by producing backpacks that are provided to rescued children headed to foster care, rather than the black plastic trash bags they currently receive. The Mrs. International Pageant is the only platform-based system and is owned and operated by International Pageants, Inc., which also operates the Miss International and Miss Teen International competitions. Mrs. International showcases married women 21 to 56-years-old and includes their husbands as an integral part of the event. For more information visit www.mrsinternational.com.
