Mrs Baird's® Bakery Donates More Than 100,000 Loaves of Freshly-Baked Bread to Texas Food Banks

FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mrs Baird's Bakery founder, Ninnie Baird, always shared her freshly-baked bread with her neighbors in need. That community involvement continues today as Mrs Baird's is helping Texans by donating more than 100,000 loaves of bread to six major food banks in Texas. Food banks receiving the freshly-baked bread donations include the North Texas Food Bank (Dallas), the Houston Food Bank, the San Antonio Food Bank, the Tarrant Area Food Bank (Fort Worth), the Capital Area Food Bank (Austin), and the South Plains Food Bank (Lubbock).

Mrs Baird's has a long-standing relationship with food banks across Texas by making regular donations throughout the year. This additional pledge began in December and will provide freshly-baked bread to Texans in need throughout the holidays and well into 2014.

"Though fresh bread is a staple in most households, it is not available to food bank clients as often as we would like because of limited shelf life," says Houston Food Bank President/CEO Brian Greene.  "To be able to provide our member agencies and the people that they serve with fresh, nutritious whole wheat bread truly is a special gift."

In order to assist food banks across the state of Texas, Mrs Baird's is also donating $5,000 to the Texas Food Bank Network (TFBN). The TFBN advocates for all 21 food banks in the state of Texas covering all 254 counties.

"Mrs Baird's generous donation will help food banks across Texas nourish the communities they serve," said TFBN Executive Director Celia Cole. "We are grateful to Mrs Baird's and all they are doing to help families in need throughout the state of Texas."

In each market where the company is donating bread, Mrs Baird's representatives are making personal deliveries to food bank agency partners who focus on feeding families and children. An estimated 1.8 million Texas children live in households that are at risk of not getting the food they need for proper nutrition and health.

"This bread donation is enough to make 1.15 million sandwiches, and we are glad our bread is going to many agencies who provide a wholesome meal for children or for those in need," said Kara Reddy, Senior Brand Manager of Mrs Baird's.
