GRAND JUNCTION, Colo., Dec. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul will soon present a contemporary self-storage facility at 2809 North Ave. in Grand Junction thanks to the recent acquisition of a former Kmart® store. U-Haul® acquired the 85,485-square-foot strip mall facility on Dec. 7.
U-Haul Moving & Storage at Lincoln Park is currently operating out of a temporary showroom and offering truck and trailer sharing, towing equipment, moving supplies and U-Box portable moving and storage containers.
Once the property is repurposed, it will have approximately 800 self-storage units with high-tech security features, including indoor climate-control rooms at affordable price points. Propane and professional hitch installation will also be offered on the 10.34-acre lot in the near future.
"This building is just two miles from downtown and Colorado Mesa University," said Tavis Larson, U-Haul Company of West Central Colorado president. "We will have a full range of customers, from college students to retirees. This acquisition gives us the ability to serve Grand Junction more effectively and provide a better U-Haul customer experience with more products and services."

Larson expects to maintain a staff of 15 or more Team Members when the facility is fully operational. U-Haul will look to hire locally to promote job growth within the Mesa Valley. U-Haul always encourages local contractors to bid on construction work.
"Grand Junction was recently named a top destination for retirees, and the neighborhoods here are continuously growing," Larson said. "Our building has been here since 1972 and we are excited to preserve and improve it as an environmentally friendly company. We want to give the community a new self-moving and storage center it can be excited about."
The recent acquisition of the Grand Junction facility was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
