Symposium Seeks to Frame New Conversation by Bringing More Than 400 Leaders Together

WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In light of extensive scientific research pointing to the especially harmful impacts that climate change will have on communities of color in the U.S. and throughout the world, the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies will convene a group of national experts tomorrow to examine the global warming debate and discuss mitigating strategies.  The event, sponsored by the Joint Center's Commission to Engage African Americans on Climate Change, is aimed at setting the stage for a more inclusive U.S. agenda, with participants exploring ideas on connecting environmental justice with science, policy and practice; on how "smart growth" can scale up equity in transportation, housing and other related areas; and for stimulating trade, investment, technology transfer and development between the U.S. and Africa.

In commemoration of the Joint Center's 40th Anniversary, a "Critical Issues in Climate Change" Symposium is being held by the Commission to Engage African Americans on Climate Change to spotlight the issues and help frame a new conversation on U.S. climate policy. The Commission Co-Chairs are Ralph B.
