KENAI, Alaska, Jan. 24, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul® is revealing details for its adaptive reuse of a vacated Lowes® store that will be transformed into the first U-Haul full-service facility in Kenai. U-Haul acquired the 15.35-acre property on Jan. 4.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Kenai at 281 Marathon Road will open a temporary showroom in February while offering truck and trailer sharing, and moving supplies.
Extensive renovations will soon render more than 450 heated indoor self-storage units with high-tech security features, drive-in load and unload areas, and U-Haul Remote 24/7® access. U-Box portable storage containers, towing accessories and professional hitch installation, heated indoor boat and RV storage, propane, and more will be available at the 111,348-square-foot building.

"I'm excited to finally have a U-Haul-owned location in Kenai," said John Norris, U-Haul Company of Alaska president. "Many folks come to this area with their boats and RVs. Now they will have an indoor heated secure place to store them. Driving the 320 roundtrip miles of narrow highways between Kenai and Anchorage is difficult. We want to offer customers a convenient storage option. Our store is conveniently located right next to the airport."
U-Haul will look to hire locally to support job growth within the Kenai community. When the store is fully operational, Norris expects to employ at least 10 Team Members. Learn more about U-Haul career opportunities at jobs.uhaul.com
The recent acquisition of the former Lowes store was driven by U-Haul Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-building materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
"This location is a short distance from the Kenai Municipal Airport and the waters of the Kenai River and Cook Inlet," Norris said. "We're pleased to bring our state-of-the-art self-storage and moving services to this community."
