COLOGNE, Germany, May 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ANGA Cable 2011 -- Motorola Mobility Inc. (NYSE: MMI) today announced an agreement with BelAir Networks to deliver its comprehensive and market leading Wi-Fi portfolio to cable operators worldwide. This new relationship combines Motorola's leading portfolio of cable video and broadband solutions and customer support organization with BelAir's world leading Wi-Fi solutions for service providers, and supports cable operators' needs to promote competitive differentiation, improve customer retention and recapture incremental revenue and profits associated with reduced customer churn.
With this agreement, Motorola will instantly gain access to BelAir Networks' proven and widely deployed portfolio of Wi-Fi access points, innovative picocellular technology and advanced Wi-Fi network provisioning and management solutions. With the proliferation of Wi-Fi enabled smartphone and tablet devices, cable operators using Motorola Cable Wi-Fi solutions can offer their subscribers on-the-go broadband services that are a simple extension of their in-home broadband services and experience. Additionally, picocellular technology provides operators access to new revenue streams as the explosion in mobile broadband traffic leaves commercial wireless service providers looking for cost effective means to increase 3G and 4G mobile network capacity.
"Cable Wi-Fi is a natural extension of our leading cable video and broadband portfolio that complements our business and the solutions we offer to cable operators worldwide today," said Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager, network infrastructure, Motorola Mobility. "As we move beyond the early adopter phase and into the growth phase of the market, we believe the combination of Motorola's global reach and BelAir's proven and trusted portfolio will be compelling for both companies. We are excited to be teaming with BelAir and look forward to serving our customers the latest innovations in cable video, broadband and now Cable Wi-Fi solutions."
The Cable Wi-Fi portfolio supports virtual Wi-Fi access points that allow cable operators to offer branded Wi-Fi services to their service provider partners using a single access point. Combined with the ability to provide localized backhaul of cellular devices, these Cable Wi-Fi and picocellular technologies offer opportunities for new revenue streams.
"Teaming with Motorola is a great opportunity for BelAir Networks as the cable market ramps up its interest in Cable Wi-Fi access and commercial wireless backhaul solutions," said Bernard Herscovich, president and chief executive officer, BelAir Networks. "With Motorola's depth of experience in the cable industry and global go-to-market reach, it presents a perfect opportunity for BelAir and Motorola to benefit from cable operators' growing demand for Cable Wi-Fi access and picocellular technologies. It's an exciting time for BelAir and the relationship with Motorola reinforces our desire to continue to be the leading provider of Wi-Fi solutions to the industry."
The new Motorola Cable Wi-Fi portfolio can be deployed in strand mount, pedestal and even underground locations, promoting limitless possibilities for access point locations. Supporting 802.11n and 3x3 MIMO standards based beam forming, Motorola's Cable Wi-Fi portfolio includes access to the entire market leading BelAir portfolio, with initial focus on the CW100SNE for cable network applications, the CW20E for indoor applications, CW20EO solution designed for outdoor wireless mesh applications and CWView, an advanced provisioning and management tool supporting the complete Motorola Cable Wi-Fi portfolio.
The Motorola Cable Wi-Fi portfolio will be displayed the 2011 ANGA Cable Expo being held in Cologne, Germany, May 3-5. For more information about the offering, please visit here
