Motiva Announces New Rail Yard in Port Everglades Terminal

HOUSTON, June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Motiva Enterprises LLC (Motiva) announced they have reached an agreement with Vecenergy to construct a fuel grade ethanol rail offloading facility at the Motiva Port Everglades, Florida, terminal. The expanded operations will allow for the delivery of ethanol unit trains directly into existing Motiva storage tanks. These new facilities will increase cost efficiency and improve delivery logistics by minimizing the number of transports required before arriving into the South Florida market.
"Motiva is ready to move forward with the construction of the rail offloading project," said Steve Herrington, Motiva General Manager - Supply. "Motiva and Vecenergy are pleased to be coordinating efforts with the Florida East Coast Railroad (FEC) to provide an integrated rail-to-terminal delivery system."
Vecenergy currently operates a products terminal at Port Everglades and is active in designing and building operating facilities for offloading, storage and distribution of bulk petroleum products. "This is a major step in making the Motiva Port Everglades terminal a multi-modal solution for ethanol distribution in the Port," stated Mark Huff, Vecenergy's Managing Director, Commercial and Corporate Development.
Florida East Coast Railroad commented "The FEC is committed to providing consistent, efficient unit-train service to the Motiva facility. This project will result in supply chain improvements into South Florida in support of the ethanol market," said Jim Hertwig (FEC - President & CEO).
The Motiva Port of Everglades terminals have a combined 1,200,000 barrels of refined products storage strategically located to serve fuels and ethanol suppliers and consumers in the south Florida area. The terminal serves ethanol producers and blenders in the U.S. with rail access from the Florida East Coast Railway. When the project is completed, an entire unit train of 80 rail cars will be off-loaded and returned to the supplier.
"Motiva is committed to enhancing its position in ethanol logistics throughout the eastern and southern U.S. as we have installed reliable ethanol blending capabilities at our proprietary terminals and adding ethanol rail hub facilities where practical," added Motiva's Herrington. "In addition to this new project, Motiva currently operates ethanol hub facilities at our terminals in Sewaren, NJ, Providence, RI, Doraville, GA, and Convent, LA.
Motiva Enterprises LLC owns and operates refineries capable of refining approximately 757,500 barrels per day, a distribution system including ownership interests in 41 products terminals, and a marketing network that supports approximately 8,300 Shell-branded gasoline stations in the Eastern and Southern United States.
Vecenergy, the energy division of the privately held Vecellio Group, has interests in the storage and distribution of petroleum products. Vecenergy is active in planning, designing, building and operating facilities for the safe and efficient offloading, storage and distribution of bulk petroleum products. Operations include product terminals at Port Everglades and the Port of Palm Beach in Florida, and terminals in Montgomery, Alabama and Macon, Georgia, with total capacity exceeding 2 million barrels.
