Motiv Power Systems Launches All-Electric Option for Ford F59 Stripped Chassis for Electric Trucks, Buses and Vans
AmeriPride places the first order for the F59 chassis with Motiv All-Electric Powertrain, one of which will be on display at The Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, March 4-6, 2015
FOSTER CITY, Calif., March 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The award-winning Motiv Power Systems is expanding its chassis choices with the launch of its All-Electric Powertrain on the Ford F59 commercial stripped chassis. AmeriPride has selected this zero-emission F59 option from Motiv for six walk-in vans to be utilized in Fresno, CA. The new electrified F59 has up to 100 mile range, a GVWR of 22,000 pounds, and a three year/36,000 mile warranty for both the Motiv powertrain and Ford chassis. Zero-emission trucks and buses equipped with the Motiv All-Electric Powertrain have shown a reduction of total operating costs by up to 87 percent compared to diesel trucks. The new electrified F59 option will be on display at NTEA's The Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, March 4-6, at booth #501.

"AmeriPride is once again demonstrating their leadership in advancing cost-effective zero-emission vehicles, by placing an order to put cutting edge vehicle technologies on the road" said Motiv Founder and CEO, Jim Castelaz. "Today, the vast majority of trucks and buses are completely dependent on fossil fuel. Combine this with unpredictability of fuel prices and increasing health concerns over toxic emissions and their contribution to climate change and it's clear that a shift is needed. We look forward to demonstrating that these zero-emission electric trucks are just as reliable and durable as diesel ones, with much lower total cost of ownership."
The F59 is the latest chassis available with the Motiv All-Electric Powertrain, which has demonstrated itself as a robust, functional electric solution on the Ford E450 and the heavy-duty Crane Carrier COE2 chassis. The F59 chassis is frequently used in the assembly of walk-in vans and step vans, which can be used as delivery trucks, refrigerated trucks, food trucks, and tool trucks.
The Motiv All-Electric Powertrain includes the Motiv electric Powertrain Control System (ePCS), batteries, motor, charger, heating, air conditioning and other components. It is installed via ship-through and requires minimal modification to the body and final vehicle design while maintaining performance. It includes universal charging compatibility and secure remote telematics and diagnostics.
Motiv's announcement to expand the Motiv All-Electric Powertrain to the F59 Chassis follows on the heels of other recent milestone achievements by Motiv including a 2014 Best of What's New award by Popular Science magazine in the Green Technology category; four all-electric Mountain View Community Shuttles funded by Google and the California Energy Commission; North America's first all-electric refuse truck deployed by the City of Chicago; and the first production model all-electric school bus in the US in use at Kings Canyon Unified School District.
