Most of the Nation's Drafting Graduates Attended ITT Technical Institute
CARMEL, Ind., July 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Most of the nation's graduates with associate degrees in drafting specialties, such as Computer Drafting and Design, and Drafting and Design Technology, were awarded their degrees from ITT Technical Institute.
According to federal data provided for the 2013-2014 school year, 39.8 percent of graduates with associate degrees in Drafting and Design Technology or Computer Drafting and Design earned their degrees at ITT Tech. The next postsecondary institution with similar degree programs graduated just over 2.8 percent of students, according to the most current data from the National Center for Education Statistics' Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System known as IPEDS.
"ITT Tech is proud to produce graduates for some of the most promising careers in drafting and design," said Kevin M. Modany, CEO of ITT Educational Services, Inc. "Each year, we work with approximately 3,400 employers to stay current with workforce trends, and update our curriculum to provide students with valuable hands-on experience. As a result, we're producing drafting and design graduates for our nation's employers."
Merrick & Company is just one of the approximately 12,000 employers who have hired ITT Tech graduates in the last two years.
"The ITT Tech students have really filled a huge void for us when it comes to 3D design," said Christopher Sherry, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Merrick & Company. Merrick is an employee-owned $110 million engineering, architecture, design-build, surveying, planning, and geospatial solutions firm.
Sherry said ITT Tech graduates are particularly well suited for his company's team environment and problem-solving structure. He added that ITT Tech students "hit the ground running" and provide "immediate impact."
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) jobs are predicted to grow to more than 9 million between 2012 and 2022. Approximately 88 percent of all ITT Tech students currently enrolled are seeking a STEM-related degree.
