TAMPA, Fla., April 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mosaic Company has announced that Karen Swager has been promoted to vice president of phosphate mining operations. Having most recently served as general manager of the Four Corners Mine, Swager will now provide overall direction, guidance and day-to-day support for all of Mosaic's mining operations in Central Florida and joint ventures across the globe.
Swager has held numerous roles of increasing responsibility in both mining and manufacturing since she joined the company in 1994. In her new role, Swager's emphasis will be on maximizing sustainable growth, profitability, and an organizational culture focused on safety, continuous improvement, employee development and engagement.

Co-chair of Mosaic's 2012 United Way campaign, Swager recently accepted the Spirit of the Suncoast award from United Way Suncoast on behalf of Mosaic and the company's employees. In 2007 Swager was recognized by the Florida Chapter of the SME with the "Hero of the Industry" award. And, in 2008 she was appointed by then-Governor Charlie Crist to serve a three-year term on the board of directors of the Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute.
In addition to her leadership at Mosaic, Swager is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. As a licensed professional engineer, she has held leadership roles with the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME), including Chapter Chairman and Director.
Swager holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering and a Master of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. She was also recently accepted into Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
