Mortenson Construction Named a 2013 Minnesota Top Workplace
MINNEAPOLIS, June 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Mortenson Construction today announced that it has been named one of the Top 100 Workplaces in Minnesota based on an employee-based survey project from the Star Tribune. This is the fourth consecutive year Mortenson has been named a Top 100 Workplace by the news organization. The Star Tribune Top Workplaces special section was published on Sunday, June 16. The report can also be found at StarTribune.com/topworkplaces2013.
Mortenson was ranked #10 on the large company list in this year's survey. In February, Mortenson was also named one of the top 150 companies to work for in the U.S. – ranked #40 – in the National Top Workplaces survey by WorkplaceDynamics. Mortenson has received 38 similar honors regionally over the past decade, including Chicago's "101 Best & Brightest Companies to Work For"; Denver Business Journal's "Best Places to Work"; Milwaukee Business Journals' "Top Milwaukee Workplace"; Minneapolis Star Tribune's "Top Workplaces"; Phoenix Business Journal's "Best Places to Work"; and Puget Sound Business Journal's "Washington's Best Workplaces."
Star Tribune's Top Workplaces recognizes the most progressive companies in Minnesota based on employee opinions about organizational health, job expectations and employee engagement. The analysis included responses from more than 64,300 employees at Minnesota public, private and nonprofit organizations. The rankings in the Star Tribune Top 100 Workplaces are based on survey information collected by WorkplaceDynamics, an independent company specializing in employee engagement and retention.
In addition to the Top 100 Workplace recognition, Tom Gunkel, Mortenson's chief executive officer, was honored by the Star Tribune with a 2013 leadership award. Gunkel has been with Mortenson for 30 years and the company's CEO since 2000.
"Mortenson Construction's mission to deliver an exceptional customer experience starts with our team members," said Rick Clevette, vice president of human resources. "This award is further validation of the exceptional people and teams we have here at the company. It is an honor to be recognized on this important list."
To qualify for the Star Tribune Top Workplaces, a company must have more than 50 employees in Minnesota. Nearly 1,900 companies were invited to participate. Rankings were composite scores calculated purely on the basis of employee responses.
