Morro Bay, CA Skateboard Museum Founder to Ride the First Electric Skateboard Across USA
The Historic Journey Dubbed Evolve Across America - the First Electric Skateboard Crossing of America is set to raise funds for Board Rescue Supporting At Risk Youth
MORRO BAY, Calif., Sept. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- We've all had that urge take a road trip across America, sightseeing and exploring this amazing country from coast to coast, but this will be a first. On September 16, 2016 Jack Smith, founder and owner of the Morro Bay, CA Skateboard Museum, will take off on a cross country road trip on an electric skateboard to help kids improve their lives, and for the love of skateboards. Smith, whose Morro Bay Skateboard Museum houses a collection of over 300 skateboards from the early 1930s to today, hopes his ride across America draws attention to and raises funds for Board Rescue. This non-profit is dedicated to providing skateboards and safety equipment to organizations that work with underprivileged, at-risk and special needs children. To date they have donated 2,558 skateboards and over $405,000 worth of equipment that 5,116 children are using today.

"I'm passionate about skateboards and understand how this incredible sport can change lives," the Morro Bay, CA resident said. "Skateboarding gives kids a positive physical activity and teaches them perseverance as well. The lessons I've learned from skateboarding have greatly influenced my life." While this is a first for electric skateboards, this is not the first cross country skateboard road trip for Smith - he pushed a conventional skateboard across America on four different occasions in 1976, 1984, 2003 and 2013.
This journey will mark the 40th anniversary of his first skateboard ride across America and will begin in Newport, Oregon and finish in Williamsburg, Virginia. The journey called Evolve Across America - the First Electric Skateboard Crossing of America - In Support of Board Rescue will take 25-30 days to complete and is sponsored by Evolve Skateboards, the leading manufacturer of electric skateboards, and Dockers. A former Freestyle Skateboarding World Champion will be the support vehicle driver and document the entire journey that will eventually become a documentary film.
