St. Andrews Country Club hosted the 5th annual Morgan and Friends Fight Cancer Tournament
BOCA RATON, Fla., Jan. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Morgan and Friends Fight Cancer Tournament was held for the 5th consecutive year at St. Andrews Country Club, Boca Raton, Florida, on January 8 and 9. This year's event raised $475,000 to be used to further the fight against breast cancer. The total amount raised in those 5 years, entirely through the generosity of St. Andrews Country Club members and the various sponsors of Morgan Pressel is in excess of $2,200,000.

Beneficiaries of the event funds, distributed through the Morgan Pressel Foundation, have included Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of Miami Medical School, and Hospice by the Sea. The specific purposes of the funds are to promote early diagnosis, newer and better methods of treatment and, eventually, to help find a cure for breast cancer. A highlight has been the partnership with Boca Raton Regional Hospital to purchase a state of the art, fully equipped mammovan, named the Kathryn Krickstein Pressel Mammovan, in honor of Morgan's late mother who died of complications of breast cancer at a young age. This mammovan has traveled throughout Palm Beach County, providing mammograms to people who might not have the time, inclination or funds to otherwise obtain a mammogram. Of the thousands tested, at least 13 cases of previously undetected breast cancer have been diagnosed and treated.
This year Morgan, St. Andrews Country Club's Resident Touring Professional, welcomed her fellow LPGA friends and players Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome and Lexi Thompson, who helped her in all aspects of the event. They played golf with St. Andrews Country Club members throughout the day, conducted a golf clinic and supported the prior evening's gala dinner and auction.
After the conclusion of the event, Morgan commented: "This year's event was a huge success and I want to especially thank the generous members of St. Andrews Country Club, the Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Committee, my personal sponsors, my extremely talented fellow LPGA members and the staff of St. Andrews Country Club, under the direction of Chief Operating Officer Craig Martin, who never fail to conduct a superior event in every aspect. Because of all of them, we were able to bring the total amount raised to fight this horrible disease to over $2.2 million dollars over our 5 year history. We must continue and accelerate our efforts."
The Sunday night reception kicked off with over 300 St. Andrews Country Club members, sponsors and guests in attendance for the silent and live auctions which generate the largest contributions to the Morgan Pressel Foundation. The following morning foursomes played nine holes with one of the professional LPGA superstars and event attendees enjoyed a complimentary clinic led by Pressel and Kerr.
Craig D. Martin, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager at St. Andrews Country Club, summarized, "We are proud of Morgan, her foundation and all of the St. Andrews Country Club members for putting together another first-class golf tournament and fund raising effort. I've been honored to watch this event mature year over year and am always impressed by the professionalism and five-star logistics executed by the Foundation and our professional staff. I can't wait for next year!"
