More Than 5,400 L'Oréal USA Employees Give Back to Their Communities in Company's Annual Day of Service
NEW YORK, June 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, L'Oréal USA kicked off its annual Volunteer Day, where more than 5,400 employees will participate in over 150 volunteer projects around the country. The company's employees will contribute more than 25,000 hours of volunteer service in local communities across Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Texas. Volunteer projects for this year's program will align with the company's corporate social missions of advancing sustainability, promoting science and providing beauty for all.
Developed to help strengthen local communities, L'Oréal USA's Volunteer Day activities range from beautifying The Highline in New York City to volunteering at a Children's Hospital in Kentucky.
"L'Oréal USA believes in being a positive corporate citizen and our annual volunteer day provides an opportunity for employees to share our commitment to sustainability, science and beauty," said Frédéric Rozé, President & Chief Executive Officer of L'Oréal USA. "Our employees are passionate about the day of service and are proud to give back to important causes in their local communities."
The annual day of service is the U.S. extension of L'Oréal's global Citizen Day initiative, the company's ongoing effort to support communities worldwide. In 2016, more than 28,000 L'Oréal employees across 70 countries helped more than 150,000 people through hundreds of projects.
In New York City, L'Oréal USA headquarters partnered with New York Cares and other local organizations to launch a customized day of service across four of New York City's boroughs with projects ranging from environmental restoration to STEM educational programs and professional development.
- Revitalization of Hudson River Park: L'Oréal USA employees will work with Hudson River Park to beautify the diverse recreational areas of the 550-acre park adjacent to the Hudson River. Last year, L'Oréal USA began its collaboration with the nonprofit through its "Lights by L'Oreal" program to upgrade all 354 light poles from metal halide to sustainable LED bulbs along the park's five-mile esplanade.
- Friends of The High Line: As an official member of Friends of the Highline, L'Oréal USA employees will have the opportunity to work on a new project to improve the ecology of the iconic city park that runs alongside the company's U.S. headquarters on Manhattan's west side.
- Makedo Imagineering Build with PS/MS 149M in Harlem: Through an interactive workshop led by L'Oréal USA engineers and 2016 For Women in Science Fellow, Dr. Shruti Naik, second and third grade students will use their imaginations and engineering skills to construct inventions using Makedo toolkits.
- LGBTQ Career and Education Panel with Ali Forney Center: In partnership with OUT@L'Oreal, L'Oréal's LGBTQ Think Tank, and the Ali Forney Center, an organization dedicated to protecting LGBTQ youths from the harms of homelessness, L'Oréal USA will host a career and education panel discussion featuring Xavier Vey, President of L'Oréal Luxe USA.
L'Oréal USA's Volunteer Day reinforces the company's sustainability commitment, Sharing Beauty With All, which aims to improve the environmental and social impact of L'Oréal's business across every level of the value chain.
For the eighth year in a row, L'Oréal was recognized by Ethisphere as a World's Most Ethical Company® for its ethical standards of behavior and its commitment to operating a sustainable business that provides economic growth, environmental respect and social responsibility for its employees and consumers.
