More than 400 Virtual Students Celebrate High School Graduation
Students will turn their tassels at June 18 in-person event
BELLEVUE, Wash., June 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Students from across Washington State who have spent their high school years studying online will meet in-person for the Insight School of Washington (ISWA) graduation celebration at 1 p.m. on June 18. More than 400 high school seniors will earn their diploma as they celebrate their past academic achievements and prepare for the future.
ISWA, a tuition-free, online public school serving students in grades 9 through 12, provides its students with a learning environment that works for them. The online or alternative learning environment has enabled graduates from the class of 2016 to take a range of courses, engage in extracurricular activities and participate in community service opportunities. Additionally many students enroll in Advanced Placement or Running Start courses, enabling them to earn college credits.
Graduates will be addressed by commencement speaker Erin Jones, who is the director of the AVID program in Tacoma and has received the 2008 Washington State Milken Educator of the Year and the state Most Innovative Foreign Language Teacher award in 2007. She is now also a candidate for state superintendent and is the first Black woman to run for state office in Washington state.
"We are very proud of our IWWA graduates," said Jeff Bush, Head of School for ISWA. "Each graduate has worked very hard to achieve this accomplishment. We will miss these great students, but are so excited to see what their future holds."
The ISWA program helps students gain a competitive edge for the future regardless of their post-graduation path.
