ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 24, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- BICSI, the association advancing the information and communications technology (ICT) community, hosted its annual Winter Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Florida. ICT professionals from all over the world traveled to the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center for the ultimate BICSI conference experience.
BICSI President Jeff Beavers, RCDD, OSP, CFHP, officially opened the conference Tuesday morning, highlighting conference activities and noting some of BICSI's latest educational releases, as well as milestone accomplishments achieved in 2018. Highlights included a Provisional License approval from the Florida Department of Education's Commission for Independent Education for its Cabling Installation, Design and Project Management Programs; the release of the 6th edition Outside Plant Design Reference Manual which won the 2017-2018 Award of Merit in the Society for Technical Communication's (STC) Technical Communications Competition; the creation of a new Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Region; and the launch of BICSI Project Refresh – a complete renovation of BICSI's World Headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
The Exhibit Hall was full of activity as nearly 180 exhibitors showcased the latest technical products and solutions in the ICT industry. The New Product Pavilion was a crowd favorite as attendees got an up-close look at emerging telecommunications technologies. Best in Show, as voted by attendees, was awarded to AFL and their FOCIS Lightning MPO Fiber Inspection System.
Also featured was the First-Time Exhibitor Pavilion, where exhibitors brand new to BICSI Conferences were showcased. Plus, the BICSI Theater made its debut at a Winter Conference. Here, attendees enjoyed brief presentations on the latest ICT products during "What's New? What's It Do?" demonstrations.
The conference continued with Opening Keynote Speaker Shelly Palmer and technical sessions. Named LinkedIn's #1 Voice in Technology for 2017, Palmer shared his insights on digital media and technologies that are transforming the way we live and work.
Conference sessions that followed included presentations on intelligent buildings, Internet of Things (IoT), data centers, smart buildings, Power over Ethernet (PoE), international ICT markets, and even the millennial RCDD.
The 2019 BICSI Winter Conference continued Wednesday and Thursday with technical presentations, the Annual Awards Banquet and Closing Keynote Speaker Admiral Mike "Wizzard" McCabe who enlightened the audience with his storied experience and passion to helping teams and leaders.
