More Than $1 Million Raised by SBS Radio Stations for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals
MIAMI, Nov. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Spanish radio stations owned and operated by Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS) (Nasdaq: SBSA) in New York, Chicago and the San Francisco Bay area, conducted fundraising Radiothons benefiting local children's hospitals this past weekend resulting in $1,145,522 raised in donations and pledges.
The Radiothons were produced live in each of the markets and were tailored to the musical formats of each of the stations' listening audience. New York's 93.1FM Amor WPAT and Chicago's 107.9FM La Ley WLEY began their Radiothons on Thursday, Oct. 20th and ended on Saturday evening. Meanwhile, San Francisco's 93.3FM La Raza KRZZ began broadcasting on Friday morning and ended Sunday evening.
In the New York market $245,583 was pledged or donated by 93.1FM Amor WPAT listeners to benefit three area hospitals in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut: Maria Fareri Children's Hospital in Westchester, Children's Specialized Hospital in New Jersey and Cohen Children's Hospital in Long Island. In Chicago, the three-day Radiothon raised an impressive $366,984 for Children's Memorial Hospital. In San Francisco, the area's #1 Regional Mexican format station once again raised more than $533,000 in pledges and donations to benefit Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland.

The funds raised during the Radiothon are part of the national efforts by Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, a non-profit organization that works with 170 local children's hospitals in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The organization partnered with Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS) to produce and broadcast the three Radiothons.
