LAS VEGAS, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- 1001 Reasons to Vote Against Harry Reid, an independent committee, has been releasing 100 highlights (or lowlights) each week of Sen. Reid's voting record over the years. Here is a small sampling of the top crimes against taxpayers committed by Sen. Reid that we are highlighting this week:
- "NO" to capping attorney's fees in the tobacco litigation to $250/hour with an aggregate cap of $5,000,000 per state 9/10/1997. Vote #224.
- "NO" to prohibiting tax dollars from subsidizing and future Teamsters leadership elections 9/11/1997. Vote #233.
- "YES" to filibustering educational choice for low-income children in the District of Columbia 9/30/1997. Vote #260.
- "NO" to prohibiting labor unions, banks or corporations from spending money on political activities without voluntary consent of their members 10/7/1997. Vote #266.
- "YES" to deleting $85,000,000,000 in tax cuts 5/20/1997. Vote #74.
- "NO" to limiting non-defense spending to the levels proposed by then-President Clinton and using the $161,000,000,000 saved for tax reduction 5/21/1997. Vote #77.
- "YES" to eliminating $85,000,000,000 in tax cuts and increasing taxes by an additional $30,000,000,000 5/22/1997. Vote #81.
- "NO" to supporting a resolution stating that if federal revenues exceed projections then the extra money should be used for tax reduction 5/23/1997. Vote #88.
- "NO" to a 60-vote requirement for legislation increasing taxes to pay for entitlement spending 6/27/1997. Vote #144.
- "NO" to expanding education IRAs allowing tax credits to be used for elementary and secondary education expenses 6/27/1997. Vote #150.
Of course, Sen. Reid's bad votes aren't limited to fiscal policy and matters relating to organized labor. He has also voted against measures that would strengthen our national security, such as the following:
- "NO" to making it a crime to develop, produce, acquire, or possess chemical or biological weapons and to require the President to impose sanctions on countries with chemical or biological weapons 4/17/1997. Vote #45.
- "NO" to prohibiting inspection of U.S. chemical plants for violations of the Chemical Weapons Treaty by countries that have sponsored terrorism or violated nonproliferation laws 4/24/1997. Vote #49.
- "YES" to filibustering the Defense Authorization bill, which sets out policies for the Department of Defense 7/8/1997. Vote #161.
- "YES" to requiring the Secretary of Defense to cancel either the F/A-18, the F-22 or the Joint Strike Fighter, all of which are integral parts of our nation's air superiority 7/11/1997. Vote #172.
"Sen. Reid is simply addicted to taxing, spending and regulating. That's bad enough, but he's also voting to systematically weaken our national security by enabling America's enemies to continue to develop weapons to be used against us and our allies. We just can't afford as a nation to allow this kind of behavior to weaken our economy or our security," said Audrey Mullen, spokeswoman for the campaign.
