Three-Day Festival Sept. 18-20 Celebrates Legendary Pairing of Coastal Georgia Favorite with a Southern Cuisine Tradition; Full Slate of Family-Friendly Activities and Entertainment On Tap
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga., Sept. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Plans for the 10th edition of the Jekyll Island Shrimp & Grits Festival – the only shrimp and grits festival in Georgia – are bigger and better than ever.
Known as one of the most tantalizing food festivals in the Southeast, the Jekyll Island Shrimp & Grits Festival, presented by Southern Living magazine, celebrates the pairing of this coastal area's prime local product, Wild Georgia Shrimp, with a bona fide tradition in Southern cuisine, grits.
Jam-packed with lively entertainment and fun activities for all ages, the Jekyll Island Shrimp & Grits Festival is a true playground for good and tasty times. This year's spirited three-day event will be held Sept. 18-20 throughout Jekyll Island's magnificent, oak-lined National Historic Landmark District.
Since its inaugural year in 2006, the Jekyll Island Shrimp & Grits Festival has been satisfying appetites and entertaining audiences with a variety of shrimp-and-grits-related merriment. Ranging from captivating guest chef demonstrations and never-ending variations on the classic shrimp and grits dish to live music by popular regional artists and an irresistible craft brew tasting experience, the schedule of activities for the upcoming festival promises a memorable long weekend for Southern foodies and other fun-seekers.
Additional features for the 2015 festival include a new Jekyll Island Experience Pavilion, an expanded Southern Living Pavilion, and an expanded lineup of craft brew vendors. Family-friendly entertainment, professional and amateur cooking competitions, live music on two stages, and more than 100 hand-selected arts and crafts vendors are all part of this 10th annual celebration.
The festival kicks off Friday evening (Sept. 18) with Day One of the three-day Craft Brew Fest, along with live music and a demonstration on entertaining by Southern Living. Additionally, celebrity chef and author, Nathalie Dupree, will sign her newest cook book, "Shrimp and Grits." Saturday is chock-full of exciting events, with a highlight sure to be the Amateur Cooking Competition, in which recipe entries must consist of at least five "Georgia Grown" food products. Georgia Grown, a program of the Georgia Department of Agriculture, is dedicated to aiding the state's agribusinesses. The Georgia Grown brand symbolizes locally grown products.
More live entertainment and engaging activities, including book signings by Jennifer Hill Booker, Georgia Grown's executive chef, and Nathalie Dupree will round out the festival on Sunday.
