Montel Williams Launches Medical Cannabis Company
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On September 8, 2016, former television host and wellness advocate Montel Williams—one of the highest-profile medical cannabis advocates in the country—is launching a line of innovative, high quality medical cannabis products for patients under the brand name LenitivLabs by Lenitiv Scientific, LLC. Williams will announce LenitivLabs at the Cannabis World Congress and Business Exposition being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center in a 2 p.m. (Pacific) keynote speech.
LenitivLabs' line of proprietary products utilize the latest cannabis manufacturing technologies and research to bring patients the highest quality and consistency available. Patients will feel safe knowing there are no harmful additives and the products will be clearly labeled and packaged in consistent, standardized doses.
"I'm proud to announce the formation of Lenitiv Scientific and the development of the LenitivLabs product line," says founder Montel Williams. "With the issue of full legalization dominating the conversation, it's critical not to forget patients who have specific needs with respect to cannabis, including strains that might be less profitable in the marketplace. The mission of Lenitiv Scientific is to ensure that seriously ill individuals—like myself—have access to the medicine they need."
Williams—an award winning media personality, decorated former Naval officer, entrepreneur, and wellness advocate—was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 1999 and has used cannabis products as a medication to manage the disease's symptoms.
"I experience neuropathic pain 24 hours a day because of my MS," says Williams. "My physicians recommended cannabis as part of my treatment seventeen years ago, and I've used it ever since. Only someone suffering from a debilitating disease can understand cannabis's therapeutic value."
Williams has been an outspoken advocate for cannabis law reform for the past seventeen years. He has worked to pass medical cannabis legislation in states such as New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut and continues to advocate for reform at the federal level and in states where medical cannabis laws are not currently in effect. Williams—who graduated from the United States Naval Academy and served twenty-two years in the military—has led the push for military veterans to legally access medical cannabis without the threat of losing benefits.
David Racz, one of the founding partners, will serve as Lenitiv Scientific's CEO. David brings a wealth of operational experience from both the pharmaceutical and cannabis industries to the company. Marvin Washington, an eleven year NFL veteran and outspoken advocate for athlete's access to cannabis as medicine has also joined the company.
In the U.S., twenty-five states and the District of Columbia allow medical cannabis based on the potential medicinal value of cannabinoid chemicals (primarily THC and CBD) for pain relief, appetite stimulation, control of nausea, and other benefits in a variety of medical conditions.
Lenitiv Scientific will serve states that currently allow for the sale of medical cannabis, with plans to expand as medical cannabis laws take effect in other states. Lenitiv Scientific, LLC is currently in a friends and family funding round.
The company will work closely with regulators and provide education for the broader community on topics such as proper dosage and methods of delivery. Lenitiv Scientific also plans to fund clinical studies at research institutions to further establish the science of medical cannabis.
Lenitiv Scientific has assembled a world class advisory board including Former Director, Central Intelligence, Ambassador R. James Woolsey, Retired Vice Admiral Edward M. Straw, former Congressman Wilbert Tauzin, former owner of General Drug, Basil Falcone, Lindy Snider and Nancye Miller-Woolsey.
