Dr. Judy Yee, World-renowned Expert in Abdominal Radiology and Pioneer of 3D Imaging Technology, Returns to the Bronx

BRONX, N.Y., Sept. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Internationally acclaimed radiologist and researcher Judy Yee, M.D., FACR, has been named professor and university chair of the department of radiology at Montefiore Health System and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Yee assumed her new position on September 15, 2017, marking a return to the Bronx, where she first discovered her passion for science at The Bronx High School of Science, and earned her medical degree from Einstein.

Dr. Yee joins Montefiore and Einstein from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she was professor and vice chair of the department of radiology and biomedical imaging. She also served as director of UCSF's 3D Imaging Laboratory, which she developed and equipped with multiple advanced technology systems used for clinical care, research and education. She was also the chief of radiology at the San Francisco VA Health Care System.

Dr. Yee is an accomplished researcher and expert in abdominal radiology. She is acclaimed for developing a novel technique called virtual colonoscopy, which is used around the world as a life-saving tool for detecting colorectal cancer. She published the primary textbook for virtual colonoscopies and has authored more than 150 publications on innovative techniques for liver, pancreatic and gastrointestinal tract imaging. She is the past president of the Society of Abdominal Radiology.

Dr. Yee serves on the Editorial Boards of RadioGraphics, Abdominal Radiology and Journal of Computed Tomography. She is a fellow of the American College of Radiology, chair of the American College of Radiology Colon Cancer Committee, and chair of its Gastrointestinal Course Program. She is also past chair of the Radiologic Society of North America's Information Committee. Dr. Yee is the recipient of many awards, including the Igor Laufer Visiting Professor Award from the Society of Abdominal Radiology, the Best Speaker Award from the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Howard Steinbach Outstanding Fellow Award, the Haile Debas Excellence in Teaching Award, and the UCSF Outstanding Radiology Faculty Mentoring Award.

After graduating from Barnard College, Columbia University, Dr. Yee received her medical degree from Einstein. She completed an internship at Mt. Sinai Hospital and then returned to Einstein to complete radiology residency at Jacobi. Dr. Yee subsequently completed her fellowship in abdominal imaging at UCSF, before joining the UCSF faculty in 1993.

She will succeed Edward Stephen Amis, M.D., who is widely admired for his distinguished leadership of the department over the past 25 years.
