Multi-institutional analytics can empower health policy and population health management research
Multi-institutional analytics can empower health policy and population health management research
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Montage Healthcare Solutions, Inc. today announced the launch of the MONTAGE Collaborative Research Network™ (MCRN) that enables multi-site and cross-institutional research queries and analytics for health policy, population health, and radiology research. MONTAGE Search and Analytics™ customers will be able to opt-in to a federated network allowing them to participate, pose queries, and get aggregated calculated results from other participating members. This cross-institutional data will allow researchers to better assess trends and variability of disease processes, radiological findings, and report characteristics.
MONTAGE currently serves nearly 140 customers spanning over 500 healthcare facilities across the United States and Canada. In aggregate, Montage indexes over 200 million radiology reports across their network posing a data-rich repository for radiology researchers. "We have provided great analytical insights to our customers through our advanced tools to analyze the mass of unstructured data at their facility or across their institution. We are truly excited to extend the insights provided by these analyses across and in comparison to a broader data set and number of healthcare facilities," said William Boonn, MD, President and CEO of Montage Healthcare Solutions.
"We are excited to begin a pilot program with several of our core customers," said Woojin Kim, MD, Director of Innovation at Montage. "Investigations, such as the number and percent of positive PE findings from CT exams performed in the ED, are more substantive and insightful when the results represent data from multiple institutions across different regions of the country." Initial pilot participants will include University of California, Los Angeles, Radiology Associates of Canton/RadHelp LLC, Baltimore VA Medical Center, University of Pennsylvania, Tufts University, and Harvey L. Neiman Health Policy Institute. "Partnership arrangements such as these create tremendous opportunities for cross-institutional investigations to identify opportunities to improve patient care and bolster efficient, effective use of health care resources," said Richard Duszak, M.D., Professor and Vice Chair for Health Policy and Practice in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Emory University and Chief Medical Officer and Senior Research Fellow at the Harvey L. Neiman Health Policy Institute.
At the completion of the pilot study, existing Montage customers can opt-in to actively participate in the network. Participation is fully voluntary and data access is limited to participating institutions. Operating in a federated network, summarized and aggregated research data is transmitted over the network. No personal health information (PHI) is transmitted or stored by the network. The secure sharing of radiology data mining and analytics has the potential to significantly contribute to optimized radiology performance and efficiency but perhaps more significantly, allow radiology's contribution to better healthcare outcomes to be documented and quantified and thus valued. More broadly, it is envisioned that the MONTAGE Collaborative Research Network can be a powerful resource for health policy research and an invaluable tool in the population health management.
