DALLAS, April 14, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- MoneyGram International, Inc. (NASDAQ:MGI) today announced a grant of $100,000 from the MoneyGram Foundation to Save the Children to support COVID-19 global relief efforts, including medical supplies and preparedness training to regions impacted by coronavirus.
The MoneyGram Foundation has also committed an additional $50,000 towards a "MoneyGram Match" campaign which will take place on Friday, April 17, 2020. Save the Children will receive a donation of $1 for every online transaction completed on the MoneyGram mobile app and customer-centric website, up to $50,000.
Funds raised through this effort will go towards the training of health teams worldwide on how to protect themselves and prevent further spread of the disease. Save the Children is also supplying the personal protective equipment and other supplies frontline health staff desperately need. In addition, supportive services are being provided to children and families who are isolated due to quarantine measures. In the United States, Save the Children is focused on ensuring children continue to learn and receive meals despite nationwide school closures.
"Many of our customers make sacrifices to send money for daily needs such as healthcare, education, and medical supplies," said Alex Holmes MoneyGram Chairman and CEO. "Now, thanks to this exciting program, customers who utilize our direct to consumer digital business on April 17th can make an additional impact on lives around the world through our partnership with Save the Children."
The MoneyGram Foundation was established in 2013 and has invested over $6.8 million in child-focused grants to nonprofits and non-governmental organizations across 69 countries. As an ongoing global crisis aid partner since 2016, Save the Children also receives an annual grant from the MoneyGram Foundation in support of the Children's Emergency Fund, a vital resource that enables the organization to provide timely humanitarian aid to children as soon as disasters occur.
