Will Launch New Private-Public Partnership to Bolster Veteran Small Business Ventures
WASHINGTON, Oct. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), will travel to the Boston area on Monday, November 2 to discuss current trends in entrepreneurship and innovation in a 21st century global economy.
During the trip, Contreras-Sweet will kick-off National Veterans Small Business Week, honoring veterans for their service in uniform and as entrepreneurs. According to the most recent U.S. Census data, nearly 1 in 10 small businesses are veteran-owned. These businesses generate about $1.2 trillion in receipts and employ nearly 5.8 million Americans.
In the morning, Contreras-Sweet will welcome veterans to Boots to Business: Reboot, an SBA entrepreneurship program aimed to provide training for the more than 20 million veterans who have already transitioned out of the military. She will announce a private-public partnership to empower veterans in small business ventures.
In the afternoon, Contreras-Sweet will highlight ingenuity in entrepreneurship by touring two innovation hubs, one of which is SBA's 2015 Growth Accelerator Fund Competition award recipient. Afterward, she will discuss how SBA and the Obama Administration are fostering the next generation of innovators during MIT's EmTech Conference.
