Mokulele Airlines introduces the WikiWings program
Travelers over the age of 65 will have new options to travel inter-island
KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii, April 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Mokulele Airlines, one of Hawai'i's favorite commuter airlines, is rolling out a new program aimed at helping elder kama'aina save money when flying inter-island. The airline, based on the Big Island, will be offering a flexible travel option that allows Hawai'i senior residents, with state ID (or proof of residence and age), the ability to fly for as low as $38.80 each way (taxes included) when booked within 30 minutes of departure at the airport check-in counter.
"I promised the people of Hawai'i that we will transform Mokulele into an airline that is focused on its Hawaiian customers," said CEO Ron Hansen, "and by offering a new senior citizen discount we are living up to one of the promises."
The WikiWings program works like this: any Hawai'i resident (with ID) at 65 years of age or older can request a seat on any Mokulele Airlines flight and fly for as low as $38.80 each way. Reservations are only confirmed 30 minutes before departure (45 min in Honolulu). WikiWings customers are given the flexibility to fly when they want and when there is an open seat. Reservations require payment at the ticket counter and there are no change or cancellation fees. This fare is also fully refundable. WikiWings is not available on partner flights operated by go! "By allowing Hawaii's seniors flexibility, they can stay longer, to finish their business, spend more time with family, or even fly back and forth more often without being stuck to a particular time or flight, I feel we can help bring back the spirit of aloha when they fly," said Hansen.
Mokulele Airlines recently started the ONLY nonstop service between Lanai and Maui, flying two roundtrip flights a day with fares starting as low as $42.79. Mokulele's flights connect the Big Island and Maui with the Kona/Kahului shuttle and also between Lanai, Moloka'I to Maui and Honolulu. All fares are based on availability and may be higher on longer routes. Departures from Honolulu incur an additional security fee of $2.50. Departures on Mokulele Airlines from Kona, Kahului, Lana'i and Moloka'i do NOT require TSA screening.
MORE GROWTH EXPECTED
Mokulele Airlines has also signed a Letter of Intent for the purchase of an additional Cessna Grand Caravan 208B, which will be in operation by July 1st 2012. "We will continue to connect the dots where there is a need," said Hansen, "and to help make air travel easier and more affordable for kama'aina and tourists. The additional aircraft will allow us to expand service, increase frequency and improve reliability."
