Mohegan Sun Marks Three Years in Palmer
Community outreach, visibility, local presence and social media have built support, excitement and interest in first-class resort casino project
PALMER, Mass., May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Mohegan Sun today marked the three year anniversary of its presence in Palmer, where the premier New England gaming operator will compete for a resort casino license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
"The commitment we've made to the community of Palmer and Western Massachusetts has been well received over the past three years, and we are incredibly gratified," said Mitchell Etess, chief executive officer of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority. "The level of support and excitement that we've generated for this project illustrates how eager the community is for a premier resort casino development."
Project supporters - as well as people simply interested in learning more about economic opportunities in the resort gaming industry - have attended Mohegan Sun Palmer's Community Conversation series, visited the Mohegan Sun Palmer storefront, attended a workshop for prospective vendors at the MassMutual Convention Center in Springfield, joined Mohegan Sun Palmer for holiday receptions and a summer barbecue, and visited Mohegan Sun Palmer informational exhibits at annual Palmer Day celebrations and the Eastern States Exposition.
Many others have also signed up for the Mohegan Sun Palmer newsletter and mailing list, requested information through the project Web site and engaged the campaign through Facebook and Twitter. Overall, approximately 10,000 people have been directly engaged by Mohegan Sun Palmer through these channels.
Mohegan Sun Palmer is the only New England resort casino operator competing for a license to operate a resort casino in Massachusetts, and the only Western Mass. proponent with plans for the type of rural, resort gaming facility that millions of New England patrons have become accustomed to over the past 20 years.
"Massachusetts is on the cusp of creating its own gaming industry, of which we intend to be an important part," Etess said. "But there is without question a certain New England gaming experience that patrons in this region are familiar with, and which has proved to be a highly successful model. That's the experience provided by the Connecticut resort casinos. We've been the most successful there for 15 years now, and that's the model for Mohegan Sun Palmer."
