Moffitt Cancer Center Hosts Free Lunch Program Focused on Lung Cancer Education
TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Moffitt Cancer Center will offer the first in a series of free cancer education lunch programs called "De Moffitt a Puerto Rico: Charlas sobre cancer" at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 2. This first program, presented in Spanish, will focus on the latest advances in lung cancer early detection and treatment. The event will be held at the Marriott Courtyard Isla Verde Beach Resort, 7012 Boca de Cangrejos Ave., Isla Verde, Carolina, Puerto Rico.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women and accounts for approximately 15 percent of all cancer diagnoses. Because lung cancer can take years to develop, it is mostly found in older individuals and is typically diagnosed at later stages than other cancers.
Moffitt experts Scott Antonia, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the Thoracic Oncology Program, and Alberto Chiappori, M.D., associate member of the lung program, will share lung cancer screening and treatment information, and answer questions. The Puerto Rico Advisory Council for Moffitt Cancer Center is hosting the lunch series.
Lunch will be provided. Parking and door prizes are included. To register, please call 1-800-456-3434, Ext. 8550, or e-mail [email protected] indicating your full name and phone number, as well as the number of attendees.
