Moen Incorporated Embraces San Francisco's "Green Retrofit Initiative" to Encourage Thinking and Living Green
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Moen Incorporated, the #1 faucet brand in North America and Mission Housing Development Corporation (MHDC), the largest nonprofit organization in San Francisco, will partner through a national program entitled "Alcanzando Suenos con Moen / Achieving your Dreams with Moen," designed to promote and support affordable and environmentally sensitive housing for Hispanic families. MHDC creates and preserves high-quality affordable housing for residents of low and moderate incomes in the Mission District and San Francisco, with 31 buildings that it either owns or manages.
Through Alcanzando Suenos con Moen program, Moen aligns with San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee's Green Retrofit Initiative (GRI) by donating water-saving kitchen and bathroom fixtures for the Abel Gonzalez Apartments, Esperanza Apartments and Betel Apartments. The GRI provides grant and loan funds to improve the energy and water efficiency of San Francisco's multifamily affordable housing stock.
To celebrate the partnership, MHDC and Moen will host a welcoming ceremony on Monday, November 14 at 12:00 pm at the organization's first affordable housing project, Betel Apartments, located at 1227 Hampshire Street, San Francisco, CA 94110.
Since 2007, Moen has partnered with other prominent nonprofit housing development organizations in major cities across the country. These include: Hispanic Housing Development Corporation in Chicago, American Sunrise in San Antonio, Centro Campesino Farmworker Center in South Florida, Chicanos por la Causa in Phoenix, Montebello Housing Corporation in Los Angeles, and three in New York -- Southside United Housing Development Fund (Los Sures), Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation and 116th Street Block Association.
In 2010, Moen returned to Chicago and partnered with Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation, a leading organization who traditionally has taken a proactive role in helping to meet the growing need for affordable housing in Chicago's diverse communities and donated fixtures for the organization's newest initiative, Zapata Apartments.
