Moen And The 116th St Block Association Connect Again To Give East Harlem Senior Residents Homes A Refreshing Uplift
NEW YORK, June 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Moen Incorporated, the #1 faucet brand in North America, www.moen.com, has again partnered with the 116th Street Block Association, a prominent non-profit organization in East Harlem. Through the program, called Alcanzando Suenos con Moen ("Achieving Dreams with Moen"), the company is donating state-of-the-art and water-saving kitchen and bathroom fixtures for all units at the Bonifacio Cora Texidor Housing for the Elderly located at 7 East 116 Street in East Harlem. Moen first partnered with the 116 Street Block Association in 2009, and donated all the bath and kitchen fixtures to the newly constructed Colon Plaza Apartments. Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito, along with Community Board 11 representatives were present to show their support of this initiative.
H. Candy Vives-Vasquez, Executive Director of the 116th Street Block Association stated, "We appreciate our expanding relationship with Moen as we continue to build homes to serve low-income families throughout our community."
Sponsored by the 116th Street Block Association and co-sponsored by The Institute for Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly (IPR/HE). Bonifacio Cora Texidor development complex was named after a former veteran and community activist and member of the block association. HUD financed the building for construction of a residential building containing 99 one-bedroom rental units for the elderly. The building is designed for seniors ages 62+ of low-income independent living.
The 116th Street Block Association, serving residents of Community Board 11 and citywide, was created in 1976 with the mission of collaborating in a recuperating strategy for the community and active in the areas of tenant leadership development and organization, improving housing from negligent landlords; promoting neighborhood stability and the provision of affordable housing.
The Alcanzando Suenos con Moen program was launched by Moen Incorporated in May 2007 in partnership with the Hispanic Housing Development Corporation, a major nonprofit builder of affordable homes in Chicago. Through the program, Moen contributes several hundred thousand dollars worth of products annually to affordable housing projects serving predominantly Hispanic communities around the country. The 116th Street Block Association is Moen's fourth affordable housing partner in New York City. In November 2008, the company announced its relationship with the Southside United Housing Development Fund, a leading non-profit organization in Brooklyn. In October 2009, a partnership with Brooklyn's Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation was also spearheaded.
