Mobile Accord and Shorthand Mobile Launch Mobile Giving App for Donors Without Data Plans
Free App Helps Supporters Discover Causes and Act to Make a Difference
DENVER, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile Accord today announced a mobile phone application powered by Shorthand Mobile that makes it easier for supporters to find charities and send donations via text message. People can now access Mobile Accord's proven mGive platform from the mGive TextApp. The mGive TextApp enables searching for organizations, finding information on giving campaigns, viewing featured campaigns and donating through an easy-to use, graphical interface. The TextApp is especially useful for those who do not subscribe to data plans, since its features rely exclusively on text messaging to send and receive data.
"As mobile technology becomes a more pervasive tool that people use for all kinds of communication around the world, it's important for charitable organizations to be able to use the technology effectively to achieve their goals," said James Eberhard, CEO of mGive and Mobile Accord. "Since mobile devices are so personal and portable it's a powerful way to build communities and call supporters to action."
"Particularly for fund raising among younger, first-time donors, the easiest way to give is with a text donation," said John McDonough, CEO of Shorthand Mobile. "Shorthand Mobile makes it easier for people who don't have data plans to find a cause they care about and make a difference whenever and wherever with just a few clicks. We are excited to help extend this platform to make it even more effective."
When a supporter makes a $5 or $10 donation through the mGive platform, the charge is included on the bill they receive from their wireless carrier, and the mGive Foundation disperses one hundred percent of the funds to the nonprofit organization. In addition, the donor is encouraged to opt-in to receive communications from the organization which may update them about progress, results and additional needs.
The new mGive TextApp represents an additional way for people to use mobile technology for social good. mGive is a pioneer and leader in powering mobile donations for charitable groups, connecting hundreds of nonprofits to people who want to make a difference. mGive's recent mobile donation campaigns for Haiti highlighted the powerful potential of mobile technology to help relieve human suffering. The text message campaigns for Haiti conducted by various relief groups and powered by mGive raised more than $41 million.
The mGive TextApp is now available for download from www.mgive.com/apps, and can be installed on phones from Alltel, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. Like all mobile apps from Shorthand, the mGive TextApp is completely free to use. The only charges are standard text messaging rates based on the mobile subscriber's text plan, and standard data rates that apply to the initial download.
