Mobeam's Beep'nGo app surpasses one million downloads in just two months
PALO ALTO, Calif., June 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Just two months after announcing the launch of its Beep'nGo loyalty and consumer offer app, Mobeam celebrated its one millionth download from the Google Play store earlier this week and is seeing impressive user engagement stemming from those installs. This milestone was achieved without the use of paid or incentivized downloads, and the company expects this rapid growth rate to continue going forward.
Beep'nGo, a featured app in Samsung's Galaxy Gifts widget which is pre-installed on the Galaxy S5 smartphone, provides thousands of the best discounts, unique offers, and coupons from leading retailers, manufacturers, and Consumer Packaged Goods companies in the US and in select geographies worldwide (its coverage is expanding rapidly). In addition, users can scan and store their favorite loyalty, membership, gift cards, and tickets into Beep'nGo. In the background, Mobeam's patented technology enables all point of sale (POS) scanners, including laser scanners, found in retail stores and sporting venues worldwide to read barcodes directly from mobile devices. The vast majority of existing POS scanners are laser scanners which cannot read barcodes displayed on smartphone screens due to factors such as the reflective screen and backlighting. Beep'nGo converts these barcodes found on coupons, loyalty cards, and membership cards into beams of light that can be read on any mobile device by every scanner in the market, including the estimated 165 million laser scanners in use around the world today.
"Surpassing a million downloads in a short time represents an exciting milestone for the Mobeam team in our quest to become the leading loyalty, offer, and commerce app. We know we're onto something big because of the great traction and interest that we are seeing from our customers," said Kang Lee, President and CEO of Mobeam.
By the end of 2014, Mobeam's technology is expected to be embedded in over 140 million mobile devices and available in over 200 countries. The patented technology from Mobeam took second place at CTIA 2013 Emerging Technology (E-Tech) awards in the Mobile Apps – Money – Payments, Banking, Mobile Commerce, Shopping and Rewards category.
According to Forrester Research, mobile commerce is expected to reach $31 billion by 2016, growing at a 39 percent annual rate.
