Mobeam's Barcode Beaming Technology is Now Embedded in Over 100 Million Smartphones
PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile commerce leader Mobeam announced that its light-based mobile commerce technology is now embedded in over 100 million smartphones worldwide. Mobeam's patented technology allows consumers with devices that are enabled with Mobeam's technology to instantly transmit loyalty cards, coupons, gift cards, tickets, and vouchers from their smartphones to all Point Of Sale (POS) scanners without any hardware or software upgrades. Without Mobeam's technology, laser scanners, which make up the vast majority of scanners in the market today, cannot scan barcodes from mobile devices because of the reflective screen and the powerful backlit display. Mobeam's technology provides the first solution for this device-to-scanner communication barrier, and with over 140 million smartphones expected to be enabled with its technology by the end of 2014, the company is poised to disrupt the mobile commerce landscape.
"Nearly every facet of shopping has gone mobile, but a missing link in truly understanding brick & mortar shopping behavior has been the lack of analytics around retailers' POS systems as consumers move through the transaction funnel at retail stores using a mobile device. We're addressing this big gap in the mobile commerce experience at the store," said Kang Lee, President and CEO of Mobeam.
Lee said, "Mobeam is uniquely situated to provide value to consumers, who benefit from consolidating and more easily accessing their loyalty, rewards, digital coupons, membership, and gift cards directly from their smartphones, as well as to retailers, brands, and Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) companies looking to drive more mobile shoppers to the retail stores and to gain a deeper understanding of the mobile behaviors that lead them there."
Today, Mobeam's technology is showcased in Beep'nGo, its top-ranking shopping app on the Google Play store. Beep'nGo, which launched less than five months ago in April, is already approaching 5 million downloads and differentiating itself as the go-to app for consumers in North America to get the best discounts, offers, and coupons from leading retailers, brands, and CPG companies.
"Coupling the convenience of in-store beaming technology with in-store offers seems to be a recipe mobile consumers are very excited about," said Lee. "Furthermore, the ability to target more than 100 million high-end mobile device owners is something retailers, brands, and CPG companies are also excited about as we rapidly grow our user base."
In addition to the discounts and offers available to consumers in North America, Beep'nGo users globally can scan and store their favorite loyalty, membership, gift cards, and tickets inside Beep'nGo. Meanwhile, Mobeam's patented technology enables all POS scanners, including laser scanners, found in retail stores and venues worldwide to read barcodes directly from mobile devices. Beep'nGo converts these barcodes found on coupons, loyalty cards, and membership cards into beams of light that can be read on any mobile device by every scanner in the market, including the estimated 165 million laser scanners in use around the world today.
For owners of Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, or Note 3, click here to download the Beep'nGo application from the Google Play store. Users who purchase the soon-to-be-released Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will also have access to Beep'nGo via Google Play.
