MMSDC to Honor Outgoing President Louis Green, Welcome Michelle Sourie Robinson at Scholarship Gala
DETROIT, Dec. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC) will be honoring outgoing President & CEO Louis Green and welcoming incoming President & CEO Michelle Sourie Robinson at their upcoming President's Scholarship Gala tonight. The event will highlight the achievements of the MMSDC during Mr. Green's nine-year tenure, which saw the council grow in strength despite the broader economic challenges facing the State of Michigan during that time.
While serving as President & CEO, Mr. Green led the MMSDC in facilitating over $25 Billion in annual business contracts between corporations and certified minority businesses, up from $16 Billion when he took over in 2005. The Michigan council was named NMSDC Regional Council of the Year on three different occasions during that time, and also was awarded operational control of the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Center in Detroit. Most recently, Mr. Green announced the launch of the Minority Business Access Fund, a $100 Billion per year program that will deliver capital to Detroit area suppliers that need additional cash flow to meet payroll and increase capacity.
"Louis has left an indelible mark on the minority business community here in Michigan," noted Lillian Lowery, Interim President & COO of the MMSDC. "He brought a fresh vision to the council, forged vital partnerships with corporations and community groups, and put in place a roadmap for our organization's enduring success."
In addition to highlighting past achievements, the event will celebrate the transition to the MMSDC's incoming President & CEO, Michelle Sourie Robinson. Ms. Sourie Robinson joins the organization after serving as Director, Supplier Diversity for The Home Depot for over thirteen years. She also holds the distinction of having been the youngest and first African American attorney to serve as Corporate Counsel for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
The Scholarship Gala is set to take place from 5:00PM - 9:00PM tonight, December 9 at the Michigan Science Center in Detroit. Like previous MMSDC Scholarship Galas, this event will raise proceeds for the President's Scholarship Fund, which awards financial assistance to outstanding minority college students attending Michigan colleges and universities.
