MMA Fighter Rory MacDonald Appears in Bitcoin.com Mini-Documentary Ahead of Middleweight Debut Against Gegard Mousasi
TOKYO, Sept. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Legendary French-Canadian MMA fighter Rory MacDonald is used to making waves and taking charge of his own destiny. The "Red King" is widely recognized as one of the best fighters in the world, sporting an impressive 20-4-0 record. MacDonald's status as a no-holds-barred champion is captured in a new mini-documentary from Bitcoin.com.
The mini-biopic serves as a snapshot of MacDonald's mental and physical preparation for his upcoming battle to hold two belts at one time. The next six months will see the Bellator Welterweight World Champion and former UFC top contender taking on not one, but two iconic challengers. MacDonald makes his middleweight debut on September 29 against titleholder Gegard Mousasi at the Bellator 206 headliner in San Jose, California.
A lifelong lightweight and welterweight who has never before fought at 185 pounds, MacDonald is taking a major risk by taking on Mousasi, currently on a seven-fight winning streak. Following his bout against Mousasi, MacDonald will prepare for a welterweight match against former UFC title challenger Jon Mitch in early 2019 in the Bellator grand prix.
Two matches at two different weight classes in just six months might seem ambitious, but MacDonald has never been afraid to take on a challenge or six. The fearless 29-year-old, known for taking risks and taking names, is as daring and independent in his approach to personal freedom as he is in the ring. MacDonald signed with Bellator in 2016, leaving the UFC to forge his own path.
In keeping with his passion for self-determination, MacDonald is a longtime avid supporter of cryptocurrency after an introduction in 2014 by his former coach, Firas Zahabi. In 2015, he became one of a growing number of MMA fighters asking for his purse to be paid out in Bitcoin. MacDonald's passionate support for decentralized peer-to-peer electronic cash as the future of money has earned him a sponsorship from Bitcoin.com.
MacDonald is a vocal supporter of Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as the future of digital currency. In July, MacDonald released a line of #BitcoinCashWarrior T-shirts in partnership with Bitcoin.com. "I have a passion for Bitcoin Cash because I believe it is digital money for the world," he said of the launch.
Bitcoin.com CEO Roger Ver is keen to deepen his support for MacDonald as he prepares for two of the biggest fights of his career. Ver himself holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has been a lover of mixed martial arts for two decades, making Bitcoin.com an ideal sponsor for champions like MacDonald.
MacDonald's new mini-documentary follows the former King of the Cage Lightweight Champion as he seeks to revolutionize the landscape of mixed martial arts--just as Bitcoin Cash is revolutionizing the path to economic freedom.
