UNION CITY, Calif., Dec. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Mizuho OSI®, a leading manufacturer of specialty surgical tables, pressure management solutions, and table-specific patient care kits, is proud to celebrate its 40th anniversary as a pioneer of operating room technology and patient positioning solutions. Founded in 1978 as a soft goods manufacturer for orthopedic injury treatment, the Company remains at the forefront of procedure specific solutions, collaborating with top surgeons to develop operating room technologies that are cornerstones in both hospitals and outpatient settings.
Since its founding, Mizuho OSI’s products have transformed complex orthopedic, spine, pressure management and general surgeries. Additionally, the company has established how the OR staff works with surgical technologies in the operating room environment. Mizuho OSI has actively worked with surgeons and healthcare providers to understand today's surgical needs and how to improve patient care, creating solutions that are designed with the end-user and patients in mind.
"Beginning with the ground-breaking Modular Table System, Mizuho OSI has provided tools that define the standard of care in the spine surgeon's operating room," said Dr. Brett Babat, spinal reconstructive surgeon with Nashville Neurosurgery Associates. "Through several generations, culminating most recently with the Levó Head Positioning System, Mizuho OSI technology has enabled me to provide safer, faster, easier, and therefore better care for my patients."
Key milestones in the company's history include:
- 1980: First Mizuho OSI operating room products, the Andrews Spinal Surgery Frame, was developed in collaboration with Dr. E. Trent Andrews, improving spinal visualization by eliminating vena cava compressions and providing safer positioning for patients during complex spine surgery.
- 1992: Mizuho OSI introduced the Spinal Surgery Table (formally known as the Jackson Table, and has evolved into the Trios Table), incorporating the first use of carbon fiber composite materials into the structural members of an operating table thereby providing a radiolucent surgical platform.
- 2001: Company collaborated with Dr. Joel Matta to develop a surgical table for use in complex orthopedic trauma procedures. This table evolved into the Hana Table, which allows orthopedic surgeons to perform the Anterior Approach procedure for hip joint replacement and trauma procedures.
- 2017: Mizuho OSI launches its Levó Head Positioning System, which introduces a new level of control and precision to head positioning for all spine procedures from cervical to sacrum, putting the surgeon in full control of head positioning adjustments.
As Mizuho OSI looks to the future, its leaders remain committed to improving patient outcomes through meaningful innovation in the operating room. The company is driving improved surgical experiences by focusing on procedural challenges and creating long-term relationships with valued clinical partners.
“For Mizuho OSI, success has always been measured by patient outcomes, it’s about continuing to develop solutions that make it easier for surgeons to improve the quality of their patients’ lives,” said Steve Lamb, President and COO, Mizuho OSI. “As we look to the future of the operating environment, we are committed to working with surgeons, nurses and hospital partners to achieve both their clinical and fiscal goals.
