Mr. Omiya stated, "Most importantly, today we say thank you to the men and women who built and designed this plant. This plant is the result of a collective work ethic of a state that rolled up its sleeves and said, 'We are ready to work'! This is about how turbines built and maintained here will power factories and cities, computer grids and hospitals. These turbines will be far more efficient than anything that has come before them. Let us celebrate this plant, built inside a great State that will be staffed by the hard working people of Georgia who are creating a new chapter in how we create the power that runs this nation."
Proudly Supporting its Client Base in North America from the Savannah Machinery Works
Mr. Hasegawa commented, "As we observe the ten year anniversary of Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas I can't think of a better place to be. By dedicating this facility we continue to grow from strength to strength. Over the last decade we have provided the U.S. and Canada with over 17,000 MW of high efficiency new generation including combined cycle, wind and conventional power. These numbers reflect engineering capability, fabrication leadership and an unexcelled commitment to the customer."
"The construction of this plant marks the first time that Mitsubishi has built a complete gas turbine manufacturing facility outside of Japan. That sends several messages -- One: We recognize the excellence in manufacturing found here within the United States. Two: We intend to be closer to our customers so that we can better serve them. With the rotor service capability and the combustor manufacturing shop installed here, combined with our Orlando and Houston facilities, we can now fulfill all of the service needs of our North American customer base," Mr. Hasegawa said.
Mr. Hasegawa also stated that the facility will become a center of environmental innovation as the company creates turbines that work smarter, more efficiently and allow MPSA to further reduce emissions per kilowatt produced.
A Public-Private Partnership
Commenting on the impact of such a significant business development in Georgia, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle reiterated, "It is a great pleasure to join Mitsubishi Power Systems for the dedication of their Savannah facility. This $325 million plant will create in excess of 500 high-quality well paying jobs and is yet another testament to Georgia's business friendly climate, highly skilled workforce, and world-class logistical infrastructure. We welcome Mitsubishi to Georgia today and look forward to a long and successful partnership."
"Mitsubishi's Savannah Machinery Works project is a great example of how Georgia can combine its best collaborative efforts, across all levels of involvement, to attract leading global companies to our state," said Chris Cummiskey, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. "Today's facility dedication was years in the making, but it would not have been possible without our partners in Savannah and around the state who helped make certain we put forth our most competitive assets for Mitsubishi. I applaud Mitsubishi for investing in Georgia, and ultimately, creating a wealth of opportunities for the people of our state."
The dedication ceremony demonstrates MPSA's strong financial commitment to its customers and the energy industry. By bringing a premier energy service complex to Savannah, MPSA is positioned to meet the needs of key customers throughout the Americas for years to come. "We are positioned to support the energy market with Mitsubishi's most advanced technology, providing quality engineered steam and gas turbine parts and services," said Dave Walsh, MPSA Senior Vice President.
