Mitchell Morris Named Leader of Deloitte's National Provider Practice
NEW YORK, July 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte today announces the appointment of Mitchell Morris, M.D., as leader of its national providers industry practice, the nation's largest health care management consulting organization based on providers revenue, according to a Modern Healthcare survey.
Dr. Morris, a principal with Deloitte Consulting LLP, was most recently head of the practice's health information technology group. Before Deloitte he held positions with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston as an oncologist, professor, senior vice president and chief information officer. He succeeds Russ Rudish who now is leader of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited's global health care practice.
"In Mitch Morris, we have the right leader to continue the winning legacy that Russ built for Deloitte's national providers team," said Bill Copeland, a vice chairman of Deloitte LLP and managing principal of Deloitte's life sciences and health care industry practice. "He not only understands the practice of medicine from the ground up, but has the top-line vision of where it is heading in light of the health system's pivot around technology, collaboration, data analytics, consumerism and value-based payments."
Dr. Morris takes the helm of an organization that encompasses more than 1,800 professionals delivering a broad range of services to hospital systems and physician groups, including consultation around health reform, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory compliance, data analytics, technology integration and upgrades, security and privacy of patient data and financial and reporting matters, such as internal and external audits and tax services.
He said a chief aim will be to bring Deloitte's "cross-sector" viewpoint to providers in light of their growing interdependence with other health sectors in tackling long-standing issues related to cost and quality.
"The challenges facing providers are becoming more defined by the challenges facing the plans and life sciences companies, given how the health system is converging around the patient," said Dr. Morris. "Deloitte has world-class client experiences and thought leadership in all of the major sectors. I look forward to harnessing this multi-dimensional perspective on behalf of our clients."
In addition to his administrative qualifications, Dr. Morris has extensive client-service experience, providing advisory services to numerous health systems, academic organizations and government agencies on strategy and operations, including clinical programs and quality, information technology, research and performance improvement. He is a frequent speaker and has published numerous papers and research, with his commentary appearing in such media outlets as Modern Healthcare, Kaiser Health News, Financial Times and The Washington Post, among others.
Morris's degrees are from the University of Michigan and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His community involvement has included leadership positions at the Commission on Cancer, Foundation for Women's Cancer, Aquarium of the Pacific, Alzheimer Family Services and numerous other non-profits. He is adjunct professor of biomedical informatics at the University of Texas Health in Houston.
