CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy (IDE) will host the MIT AI and Machine Learning Disruption Timeline Conference on March 8, 2017 at the MIT Media Lab.
This Conference is a timely event that will closely examine the unprecedented disruption and transformation of jobs, businesses, and industries due to advancements in AI and machine learning. Beyond drones, transportation, speech recognition and call centers, AI and machine learning are poised to disrupt areas such as healthcare, energy and facilities management, and back office processing.
The Conference will bring together leaders from industry, academia, and public policy who are uniquely qualified to not only showcase the latest advancements and applications, but also to critically explore the trajectory of AI and machine learning and to provide actionable insights on the economic impact of these disrupting technologies in the coming 5 to 10 years.
"We've designed the day to be highly interactive, combining short presentations and moderated panels with extended Q&A sessions to engage the audience," said IDE Director Erik Brynjolfsson. "This event is unique in its emphasis on defining the greatest challenges and opportunities for industry in the coming years, exploring economic policies and strategies for displaced human workers, and uncovering ideas that can help inform a wide variety of organizations, as well as the incoming administration."
"These technologies are already being deployed widely and are spreading into more non high-tech sectors, as well," said Christie Ko, Associate Director of the IDE and organizer of the event. "We approach the challenges ahead from a pragmatic perspective, changing the conversation to include not just academics and AI experts, but a broader set of company executives, policy makers, and non-profit leaders. Our goal is to help a greater percentage of the population benefit economically from these technologies now and in the future."
Conference session topics are Technology Frontiers, Disruption in Business, and Skills and Labor. Speakers including Jason Furman, former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, Manuela M. Veloso, Head of the Machine Learning Department at Carnegie Mellon University, and Elliot Turner, Director of Offering Management, Watson Platform, will share valuable knowledge on all issues related to AI and machine learning.
