Mirabella Raises $13,690 and Counting For The Humane Society of Grand Bahama
Bradenton Florida Active Adult Community Raises Money for Shelter in Dire Need of Supplies.
BRADENTON, Fla., Nov. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Marshall Gobuty, President of Mirabella Florida, and his team have raised $13,690 over the last few weeks for the Humane Society of Grand Bahama, whose animals desperately needed medical supplies after the devastation from this year's hurricane season. The fundraiser went viral, and within the first five days $9,000 was donated to the shelter, which was then able to quickly order their necessary supplies.
Upon learning that the shelter where he had adopted his own dog, Lucky, several years ago, was in trouble after a catastrophic hurricane season, Gobuty decided to use his pet-friendly development, Mirabella, to help.
Mirabella started a fundraiser through a GoFundMe page they created, www.gofundme.com/mirabella-humane-society-fundraiser, and Gobuty promised to match all donations up to $5,000 made over the course of the following two weeks. The response was nothing short of astounding. In only five days, the page had received $4,500 and counting in donations from friends, family, and followers of Mirabella and the Humane Society of Grand Bahama. With such great response, Gobuty then upped his match to $7,500.
Now, the GoFundMe page has raised a total of $13,690 for the Humane Society of Grand Bahama and their beloved animals, which is released to the shelter as quickly as possible so they may continue to purchase supplies.
"It was the least we could do to help," said Gobuty. "When I heard my potcake Lucky's very own brothers and sisters were in need, I had to do something. I couldn't bear the thought of them going another day without the supplies they need to stay alive."
Being a huge animal-lover, Gobuty donates frequently to his local Humane Society, running promotions on his company's Facebook page, donating when people like, share or comment.
Although the matching period has ended, Mirabella and the Humane Society of Grand Bahama have decided to keep the GoFundMe page running, in the hopes that it will continue to generate donations.
"In the animal welfare world, it's easy to become disheartened when we see so much human apathy and cruelty to our animal friends. In 2010, Marshall Gobuty visited our shelter after having recently moved to Grand Bahama with his family," said Tip of the HSGB. "I will never forget the sight of him pulling into our parking lot in his pick-up truck on a regular basis to spend hours at a time with our dogs. He even spent months helping the dogs that were least likely to be adopted locally find homes in his friends and others in Canada. Even after his family's departure from our island, Marshall has stayed in touch and continued to support our shelter. When I reached out in desperation a few weeks ago, he, his family and his company sprang into action and we could not be more grateful. There truly are human angels among us, and Marshall, his family and his company are living proof."
Marshall and his team at Mirabella couldn't be more humbled to be able to help such a good cause, and after receiving such a great response, are excited to continue coming up with new fundraisers in the future.
