"In the cyclical production business, producers are once again operating across borders as they search for new co-production partners, creative collaboration and funding possibilities," says Laurine Garaude, Director of the Television Division, Reed MIDEM. "We are launching the Producers' Forum as an effective and focused learning and networking solution to help producers keep abreast of the current co-production trends in order to take advantage of new business opportunities."
As part of the dedicated schedule, the "Co-production 2010" discussion panels, with Gary Marenzi, Co-President, Worldwide Television, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc., John Morayniss, CEO – E1 Television and Lee Bartlett, Managing Director, ITV Global, will highlight the opportunities offered to the industry by emerging markets. A series of regional co-production workshops will give insight into how to work with Brazil, Canada, Japan, Malaysia and China as well as boost creative collaboration between producers and commissioners worldwide.
The Forum will also include a creative course led by one of the producers of box-office blockbuster Avatar, Jeff Gomez, CEO, Starlight Runner Entertainment and Nathan Mayfield, Chief Creative Officer and Co-Founder, Hoodlum, who co-created the multiplatform campaign for Lost. Both experts will talk about how to develop successful cross-media storytelling and content creation. Paul Boross, known as the "Pitch Doctor," will give tips on successful pitching; the "Entertainment Master Class," will advise professionals on how to sell and protect their formats, while networking meetings will run throughout the Forum to make global business easier for international producers.
The WIT's highly-anticipated annual "Fresh TV Around the World" will showcase 30 of the most talked about TV formats aired or commissioned worldwide.
Production and specifically co-production issues will also be at the heart of MIPDOC (April 10-11, Martinez Hotel, Cannes), the international showcase and conference for documentary and factual programmes. Several initiatives focused on "Co-Productions Seeking Funding" are set to boost co-production deals and help documentary producers seeking funding and coproduction partners. The agenda includes a pitching workshop, a co-production "deal making" event and a matchmaking breakfast for potential co-producers. Finally, the 6th MIPDOC Co-Production Challenge will give creative and original projects the opportunity to be seen by top commissioning executives.
Producers' associations supporting the Producers' Forum at MIPTV include PACT (UK), Capital Radio and TV Program Producers Association (BBPA – China), Brazilian Producers Association, FAPAE (Spain), Dutch Association of Filmmakers and Television Producers (N.B.F) as well as screen agencies such as Film Victoria (Australia) and governmental cultural agencies including Telefilm Canada.
