MinuteClinic Forms Clinical Affiliation With St. Vincent's HealthCare in Jacksonville
Agreement Includes Clinical Collaboration and Integration of Electronic Medical Records
WOONSOCKET, R.I. and JACKSONVILLE, Fla., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- MinuteClinic, the retail health care division of CVS Caremark (NYSE: CVS), and St. Vincent's HealthCare, a regional health system in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia that includes St. Vincent's Medical Center, St. Luke's Hospital, St. Vincent's Primary Care and St. Catherine Laboure' Manor, have entered into a clinical affiliation to enhance the high quality, affordable health care services they provide in communities throughout the Jacksonville metropolitan area.
MinuteClinic has seven walk-in medical clinics open seven days a week inside select CVS/pharmacy stores in Jacksonville, Macclenny, Orange Park and St. Augustine. The clinics are staffed by nurse practitioners who provide treatment for common family illnesses and administer wellness and prevention services and health condition monitoring.
"Our team of MinuteClinic nurse practitioners looks forward to working with St. Vincent's family physicians to expand access to high quality, affordable health care services to patients in Florida and Georgia," said Andrew Sussman, M.D., President, MinuteClinic and Senior Vice President/Associate Chief Medical Officer, CVS Caremark. "As we have experienced in other parts of the country, strategic clinical affiliations between MinuteClinic and major health systems such as St. Vincent's can help to enhance the delivery of health care services in a convenient and accessible setting."
"Patients are demanding better access to primary care services and this partnership will help our two great organizations deliver that to people in Jacksonville and southeast Georgia," said Moody Chisholm, CEO of St. Vincent's HealthCare.
Under the agreement, St. Vincent's Primary Care family physicians will serve as medical directors for MinuteClinic locations in Jacksonville. In addition, MinuteClinic and St. Vincent's will collaborate on patient education and disease management initiatives and will inform patients of the services each offers. St. Vincent's Health System will accept patients who need a level of care that is not provided at MinuteClinic. Signage at MinuteClinic locations will inform patients that each site has a clinical affiliation with St. Vincent's Primary Care.
MinuteClinic and St. Vincent's Health System will begin to work toward fully integrating their electronic medical record systems to streamline communication around all aspects of each individual's care. With patient permission, each St. Vincent's Health System-affiliated MinuteClinic will share medical history and visit summaries with other St. Vincent's HealthCare locations in Jacksonville. In the meantime, MinuteClinic will continue its standard practice of sending visit summaries via fax or mail, typically within 24 hours.
MinuteClinic practitioners specialize in family health care and are trained to diagnose, treat and write prescriptions for common family illnesses such as strep throat and ear, eye, sinus, bladder and bronchial infections. Minor wounds, abrasions and joint sprains are treated, and common vaccinations such as influenza, tetanus, pneumovax, and Hepatitis A & B are available at most locations. Walk-in camp, sports and college physicals for adolescents are available daily. In addition, MinuteClinic administers a series of wellness services designed to help consumers identify lifestyle changes needed to improve their current and future health, including screenings and monitoring for diabetes, hypertension and obesity.
