MINT Health Club and Spa Opens K Street Location
Local Wellness Concept Combines Gym, Fitness Services and Spa
WASHINGTON, March 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Local health club and spa, MINT, will open its second location, in the heart of the K Street corridor, on Monday, March 28. In a lease agreement with Ashford Hospitality announced in December, MINT took control of 14,000 square feet of space including the former home of the Capital City Club & Spa and an expansion of 5,000 additional square feet from the Capital Hilton. MINT Downtown is at 16th and K Streets northwest.
MINT prides itself in providing the unique balance of an intense fitness experience and a retreat atmosphere.
"Your focus on wellness and fitness should not feel like another item on your to-do list," says MINT owner Patrick John. "It can be a retreat where you rejuvenate, re-energize and even relax. That's what MINT offers."
General Manager Eric Somerville adds, "The vibe at MINT is different. It's not about body image; it's about health and wellness and just feeling good. There's a tranquility here that you don't find in a typical gym experience. We feel MINT is an important addition to the bustle of the K Street corridor."
The wellness concept combines a traditional gym membership experience with first class personalized fitness and nutrition services as well as a full service spa. Members and non-members alike can take advantage of: the largest Stott Pilates Reformer studio in the city and personal training provided by 9 highly-credentialed trainers each offering different specialties for a range of programs to suit all goals, ages and lifestyles.
For members, the club offers a dedicated cycle studio, ten different styles of yoga and more than 65 fitness classes each week ranging from men's and women's intensity training and TRX to Zumba dancing. Lockers rooms are well appointed with heat facilities, fine minty shower products, plush robes and slippers and convenient digitally coded lockers and laundry service.
"Between the wide array of classes and the personal attention you can receive through private pilates instruction, personal training, nutrition counsel, spa treatments and even physical therapy, everyone can find their own way to get healthy, stay healthy or just retreat and refresh at MINT," says co-owner Melissa John.
The new MINT location double the amount of fitness space and boasts the most current strength and cardio equipment from Free Motion, Life Fitness, and Precor. Like at flagship location, MINT Dupont, MINT Downtown members and guests will find mint-infused ice water and cooled towels stationed across the facility.
Careful attention is paid to the physical space at MINT Downtown. The design is "modern meets functional" in an energizing retreat. Build-out includes green materials such as reclaimed wood floors, Nike Grind rubber floors made from ground sneaker soles and carpets of natural fibers.
This new MINT location has been operating in Phase I since January, with only a short closure over the December holidays. Phase II officially opens on March 20 with a weeklong Open House celebration. Neighbors are welcomed to stop by MINT to see the renovated space, meet the staff and even try out some of the equipment and see professional demonstrations.
The Capital City Club & Spa, owned by The Capital Hilton with operational support from WTS International, operated at this location for the last 15 years. Since MINT joined the hotel in December, the facility has undergone a complete renovation including significant expansion along the building's K Street facade. Build out included an all-new interior of modern design featuring wood, concrete and glass finishes. The new club offers 14,000 square feet on two floors with an additional mezzanine level.
