HOUSTON, Minn., March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Minnesota Virtual Academy (MNVA), an accredited, tuition-free, online public school, will open enrollment on Monday, March 16, 2015, for families with students in grades K-12 who wish to enroll for the 2015-2016 academic year. MNVA is an education option available to students from across the state of Minnesota. By combining online instruction, hands-on curriculum and the support of Minnesota-licensed teachers, MNVA creates an individualized education for each student, with emphasis on programs for advanced students and the opportunity for advancement in STEM education.
To help parents and children learn more about the program, MNVA will participate in a Discovery Day event in St. Paul on March 14, 2015, where families can meet teachers, experience the curriculum and enjoy free admission to the Science Museum of Minnesota. Interested families are encouraged to visit the school's website for details on the Discovery Day event, online information sessions and how to enroll.
For the upcoming 2015-2016 school year, MNVA will expand its Advanced Learners program. Students in grades K-8 who meet the qualifications will be offered the opportunity to participate in this enrichment program, which is designed to address their advanced abilities and interests. Entrance to the program is based on standardized test scores and teacher recommendations.
The High School program will offer an improved Homeroom Model in 2015-2016. Students will be assigned to the same homeroom teacher every consecutive year in order to encourage a strong, consistent bond with an instructor who is committed to helping them navigate the high school experience. This is in addition to the grade level advisors, counselors and classroom teachers, who together make up a strong support system for each high school student.
"MNVA is a great choice for students who want an individualized education that meets their learning needs," said Krin Abraham, Head of School at Minnesota Virtual Academy. "Our school provides a rich curriculum that encourages students to learn and thrive, as well as a supportive community of parents, teachers and staff who understand the importance of a well-rounded educational experience."
MNVA provides a rigorous, engaging curriculum, including courses in language arts/English, math, science, history, world languages, art and music, as well as elective and Advanced Placement® courses for high school students. Students use web-based lessons and hands-on instructional materials that are shipped to their home.
