Minnesota Home To Five Of The Nation's Top Truck Bottlenecks

ARLINGTON, Va., Feb. 12, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Transportation Research Institute today released its annual list highlighting the most congested bottlenecks for trucks in America, and five Minnesota locations made the top 100.

The 2019 Top Truck Bottleneck List assesses the level of truck-oriented congestion at 300 locations on the national highway system. The analysis, based on truck GPS data from nearly 1 million heavy duty trucks uses several customized software applications and analysis methods, along with terabytes of data from trucking operations to produce a congestion impact ranking for each location. ATRI's truck GPS data is used to support the U.S. DOT's freight mobility initiatives. The locations detailed in this latest ATRI list represent the top 100 congested locations.

"As a rule, a strong economy means job growth and increased demand for goods delivered by truck," said Minnesota Trucking Association President & CEO John Hausladen. "The downside to that is increasing traffic congestion, and the Twin Cities is no exception. ATRI's analysis allows us to target infrastructure investment in those locations where we will see the greatest return-on-investment for our citizens and our economy."

The five bottlenecks in Minnesota, all in the Twin Cities are:

No. 36: I-35W at I-494
No. 52: I-35E at I-94
No. 53: I-35W at I-94
No. 66: I-35W at I-694
No. 86: I-94 at US 52

This report should be a wakeup call for elected leaders at all levels of government that we must act quickly to address our increasingly congested highway system," ATA President and CEO Chris Spear said.
