The Minister acknowledged the important role Microsemi has played in many of the country's space and defense programs. In the space sector, he noted that Microsemi's technology has been deployed in various satellite programs including series IRNS, INSAT, the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite system and a variety of remote sensing (agriculture/weather) communications satellites. The Minister also praised Microsemi for its contribution of radiation-hardened technology for use in Chandrayaan-1, India's first scientific mission to the moon, and for its upcoming deployment in the 2014 launch of the Chandrayaan-2 lunar rover.
In the defense sector, the Minister commented that Microsemi's solutions are used by many government agencies including the Indian Air Force, Navy and Army for several strategic programs such as fighter aircrafts, surveillance systems and radio communications systems. He also underscored the importance of having partners such as Microsemi that are committed to establishing true full-service, in-country organizations and a strong regional infrastructure.
"On behalf of Microsemi, I want to thank Minister Ponnala for honoring us with his presence as we mark our two-year anniversary in Hyderabad, and for sharing his perspectives on the markets we address," said Esam Elashmawi, vice president and general manager of the SoC Product Group at Microsemi. "In a relatively short time, we have established a solid in-country team and created an infrastructure of local ecosystem partners to support our Indian customer base. We are very proud that our people, products and technology are being used to help advance India's space and defense programs. We look forward to building on the successes we have achieved to date, and continuing to contribute to vibrant economic growth in India."
At the event, Microsemi also announced that its Hyderabad facility achieved two key industry certifications including IS0 9001:2008 for meeting rigorous quality management standards for systems and processes. Microsemi's India facility also achieved compliance with stringent AS9100 Rev C quality system requirements for aviation, space and defense markets. The new revision of AS9100 includes an increased focus on risk management, supplier management controls, on-time delivery and product conformity measurements, including taking appropriate actions against vendors when planned results are not achieved. The quality audits were conducted by NSF International Strategic Registrations, Ltd., a leader in management systems registrations for clients throughout the world.
The company also announced that Elashmawi will present a keynote speech titled "Maximizing Opportunities in High-Value Semiconductor Markets with Steep Barriers to Entry" at the Indian Semiconductor Association "CXO Conclave" event in Hyderabad on the evening of Sept. 20.
