Minister Fantino Hosts Veterans Stakeholder Meeting
OTTAWA, Oct. 2, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today took the next step in his extensive outreach to Canada's Veteran community by hosting over two dozen Veterans' stakeholder groups for a full day dialogue at the Canadian War Museum.
"Today's meeting was an excellent opportunity to build the strong working relationships that are needed to produce the results we all want for Canada's Veterans and their families," said Minister Fantino. "I look forward to working together with the many partners involved to support our former men and women in uniform and their loved ones—in a spirit of true collaboration, mutual trust and support."
The participants had a full and frank discussion about the New Veterans Charter, and Minister Fantino solicited views and gathered information from all involved. The Minister also encouraged all those at the table to help support the upcoming work of the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs.
Last week, Minister Fantino announced that the Government will initiate a comprehensive parliamentary review of the New Veterans Charter and all its enhancements once the legislative session begins this fall. This forum will serve as a key opportunity to find responsible solutions to improve the already robust systems of support in place to help Canada's Veterans.
"I'm thankful to all those who took part in today's discussion. It is incumbent upon us to find common ground, to focus on priorities and to find ways to support one another in serving those who served," said Minister Fantino.
