Minister Fantino and Veterans Affairs Committee Members Pay Tribute to Canada's Veterans
OTTAWA, Nov. 5, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, and Parm Gill, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs, today joined members of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs and parliamentarians for a wreath-laying ceremony paying tribute to Canadian Veterans.
The commemorative ceremony was held at the National War Memorial and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Government of Canada recently announced that next year the National War Memorial will be rededicated to the memory of all men and women who fought for our country.
"Veterans' Week is a time when all Canadians take time to honour the sacrifices of the brave men and women who gave so much to defend our values of freedom and democracy," said Minister Fantino. "We must remember all Canadian Veterans and honour the men and women who continue to serve today."
"The Government of Canada is dedicated to honouring those Canadians whose legacy is the peace and security we continue to enjoy today," said Parliamentary Secretary Gill. "This Veterans' Week, we are asking Canadians to show they remember the amazing men and women who sacrificed so much for us."
This Veterans' Week, your challenge is to show you remember. Wearing a poppy, attending a local Remembrance Day ceremony and changing your Facebook profile picture to a poppy are all ways to remember and honour Veterans.
