Minister Blaney commends CBSA and RCMP on deportation decision

OTTAWA, June 5, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, commended a joint investigation by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), which led to a deportation order for Jahanzeb Malik. Mr. Malik was arrested by CBSA three months ago due to his involvement in an alleged terrorist plot to bomb locations in downtown Toronto.

"Our Government remains committed to keeping our streets and communities safe for Canadian families. I commend members of the CBSA and the RCMP for this swift and diligent investigation.

The first duty of any Government is to keep its citizens safe. That is why our Government introduced the Anti-terrorism Act, 2015, to better protect Canadians against terrorist threats by giving our police forces the tools they need to keep Canadians safe

In addition to the Anti-terrorism Act, 2015, our Government proudly introduced the Removal of Serious Foreign Criminals Act, which will eliminate barriers to the removal of foreign criminals convicted of committing serious crimes in Canada and prevent our nation from being used as a safe haven for foreign criminals."
